Why We Choose Tallow
We don't use tallow because it's trendy.
We use it because it's a hardworking ingredient that doesn't need much help to do its job.
Tallow naturally contains fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins, and its rich composition makes it an excellent moisturizer for dry, hardworking skin. It helps support the skin's natural moisture barrier while leaving skin feeling soft, comfortable and deeply moisturized.
Because our products are anhydrous, meaning they're made without water, a little goes a long way. You're getting concentrated skincare without water making up the bulk of what's inside the jar.
Simple. Effective. And exactly what we think everyday skincare should be.
Why We Render It Ourselves
Long Lane Naturals grew from Long Lane Farms, where raising grass-fed cattle is part of what we do every day. Working with tallow was a natural extension of the way we've always looked at farming - making thoughtful use of what we have and finding value in the whole animal.
Before our tallow ever becomes skincare, we render it ourselves.
We carefully render and filter our tallow in small batches before it makes its way into a lotion or balm. It's a time-consuming process, but it gives us control over how one of the most important ingredients in our products is handled.
Could we buy ready-to-use tallow and skip that entire process? Absolutely.
But we'd rather do it ourselves.
It's one more step in a very hands-on process, and one we're not interested in handing off.
Simple Ingredients. Purposefully Chosen.
Tallow does a lot of the heavy lifting, so we don't believe in surrounding it with ingredients that don't need to be there.
We pair it with a small number of thoughtfully chosen ingredients, including jojoba oil, beeswax, arrowroot powder and essential oils in our scented products.
Every ingredient has a reason for being there.
